It is reported that Japanese makers of electric furnace carbon steel have started the production for new fiscal year from April 2011; however, they have been facing severe business condition since the earthquake in March 2011.
The steelmakers have to counterwork to the sharp demand drop, limited availability of power supply and ferrous scrap, where the government starts obligation purchase system for renewable energy in fiscal 2012.
Mr Katsutoshi Kurikawa chairman of Japanese Non Integrated Steel Producers' Association said that the quake changed the steel market drastically in eastern Japan and he suggested the makers should work on a stable supply of steel products for rebuilding.
