Turkish steel exports in January drop 30pct MoM- 14 Feb 11

In January 2011, Turkey''s total steel exports amounted to approximately 1.21 million tonnes declining by 29.63% as compared to the previous month and up 15.17% YoY. In 2010, Turkish steel exports had decreased by 6.46% YoY to 17.33 million tonnes while the revenues from these exports had risen by almost 11% due to increased steel prices reaching USD 13.7 billion.
Meanwhile, in January, Turkey''s steel billet exports decreased by 60.8% MoM and by 49.43% as compared to January 2010, totaling 126,700 tonnes. More than 80% of Turkey''s total steel billet exports in the month in question went to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. In 2010, Turkey''s steel billet exports came to approximately 3.53 million tonnes increasing by 55.85% YoY while revenues from these exports rose by 102%.
On the other hand, Turkey''s steel bar exports in January amounted to 500,276 tonnes dropping by 22.51% MoM and up 59% YoY. Last year, Turkey''s total steel bar exports had declined by 28.57% YoY to 6.41 million tonnes while revenues from these exports had decreased by almost 11%.
In January, Turkey''s total hot rolled flat steel exports decreased by 35.9% MoM to 100,913 tonnes while the year-on-year increase was recorded at 238%. In 2010, Turkey''s hot rolled flat steel exports totaled approximately 921,000 tonnes increasing by 3% YoY.
