Turkish long producer Kardemir yesterday increased its rebar prices by TRY 59/tonne ($37/t). Prices for sections also increase by €10/t. The increases are the second this week from the integrated steel producer.
Rebar of 12-22mm is now priced at TRY 890/t ($540/t). The company had already increased its prices by TRY 174/t ($106/t) on Monday.
Kardemir’s sections prices go by €10/t. The new price for 160-200mm IPN-IPE-UPNs is €550/t, and for the same products of 220-550mm the price is €645/t ex-works. HEA-HEBs 120-260mm are offered for €645/t ex-works. On Monday the prices were increased by €5/t as Steel Business Briefing reported previously.
The domestic market gained momentum last week, Turkish sources report. General rebar offers increased by TRY 160/t in a week. The new offers range between TRY 1,100-1,110/t ($668-674/t) including VAT.
The main reason for the increase is commented to be low stock levels among the domestic traders, and increasing prices for imported scrap. But some traders are pessimistic about the prices increase: “the rebar being bought now is not likely to be used in the constructions, it will go into stock,” says one. “So that might mean the prices could turn downwards again. We should wait and see till the end of the month to be sure to say this is a price correction”
Wire rod offers are around $550-600/t ex-works.
