Trial operation of second DRI production line of Khorasan Steel with 800,000 tones production capacity (which can be increased by 100,000 tones) has been inaugurated. First DRI plant of the company started production by last December. As reported by IMIDRO, more than USD145m has been invested in the project and it has made 2000 news jobs directly.
The project is a joint venture between IRITEC and IRASCO and before second steel making line of the company begin operating, some part of the HBI needs of Iranian steelmakers such as Esfarayen Steel, Yazd Alloy Steel and Mobarakeh steel will be provided by this new DRI plant.
This DRI production line has been put in to operation after 30 months by domestic experts and engineers.
It’s notable that at the moment raw material needs of the plant is being provided by Gol-E-Gohar Pelletizing plant and Chadormalu Mining Co,.
In the future Khorasan Steel will be self sufficient in raw material needs, by its own mines at Sangan Khaf , that will be transported by rail.
