It is reported that China will consume even more coal during the 12th Five Year Plan period which will be a great development opportunity for its coal industry.
Preliminary forecasts show that China coal consumption in 2015 will be likely to reach 3.8 billion tonnes a net increase of about 800 million tonnes from 2009.
Mr Wang Xianzheng president of the China National Coal Association said China coal consumption is expected to reach about 3.8 billion tonnes in 2015.
He said that “The international and domestic situations indicate China is still in the period of strategic opportunities for its economic development. Therefore, further progress on industrialization, informatization, urbanization, marketization and internationalization will provide huge market potential for coal.”
China has total coal reserves of 5 trillion tonnes at present, with proven coal reserves making up 94% of its total non renewable energy resources, indicating a long term dominance of coal in China's energy consumption.
