Indian steel plants likely to face ore scarcity on exports - 17 Aug 10

According to Mr PK Bishnoi CMD of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the export of iron ore from the country is causing concern and steel plants in the country may face ore scarcity in the future if the trend continues.
Mr Bishnoi while releasing an updated second version of the biography of Dr Tenneti Viswanadham, the freedom fighter who strove hard for the establishment of the Vizag steel plant, hailed him as a great visionary and the father of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Mr Bishnoi said the great freedom fighter had the vision 40 years ago to question the wisdom of iron ore export from the country.
Mr Bishnoi remarked that "All countries are exporting value added products. China, for instance, is not even willing to export steel but finished steel products. On the other hand, we are exporting iron ore and we are neglecting the vital aspect of value addition. We should, as advised by the great freedom fighter, focus on the need to conserve iron ore in the country.”
