According to World Steel Association, Iran became the second steel producer of Middle East in first half of 2010. Turkey with 13.492 million tones of crude steel production, 13.1% higher than first half of 2009 was the first in the region. Iranian production actually rose by 2.7% in the first six months of the year to 5.9 million tonnes and became the second one.
Egypt by 13.6% rise at around 3.43 m tonnes was the third largest producer of crude steel in the region and after that was Saudi Arabia with 652,000 tones by an increase of 19.5%.
The fifth steel producer of the region was Qatar with 988,000 tonnes and 77.9 % rise comparing to last year.
Excluding Turkey and Egypt, crude steel output of the Middle East in first six month of the year rose around 18% and reached 119 m tonnes.
Recently World Steel Association announced that world crude steel production in June was 18% higher that June 2009 and in first half of the year 27.9% higher than same period last year, around 706 million metric tonnes.
