CIS - Quieter on vacation- 04 Aug 10

As vacation period is coming to its peak, the market activities are getting quieter, but there were also essential transformations on the market.

Billets are keeping the same level of USD 485 per tonne to USD 505 per tonne FOB Black Sea as in the previous week, but market is less active. As well as somehow prices for semis must be under the pressure of finished products.

Rebars and WR prices lost USD 5 per tonne to USD 25 per tonne as compared to the previous week due to lack of demand. Offers for rebars generally concentrate USD 510 per tonne FOB. WR conjuncture was better, but price range was almost similar, although wider USD 505 per tonne to USD 530 per tonne.

For Finished flats surrounding facts are more interesting. Very important issue that influences the market is the change of owners of the mills and sellers for Zaporizhstal and Ilyich material.

With Ilyich everything is more or less clear. In August Metinvest contracts 20% of production; and then increasing its share. Till October they expected to sell 100% from Ilyich.

For Zaporizhstal nothing is clear.

Meantime, no “low-cost” spot market proposals from Ilyich anymore. Most part of the Ukrainian production is offered for USD 530 per tonne to USD 560 per tonne FOB. The Russian material pricing can be described as more concentrated as the price range narrowed to USD 550 per tonne to USD 580 per tonne.

The plates quotations are quite stable, but working price range moved upper than USD 600 per tonne.
