China exports 5 million tonnes of finished steel in May- 14 Jun 10

According to the latest statistics by the General Administration of Customs, China has exported 4.94 million tons finished steel products in May 2010 up by 0.63 million tonnes from 4.31 million tonnes in April 2010 with a total value of USD 3971.05 million increase of USD 705.32 million form April.
Analysts believe the steel export enlargement since this February is in favor of the stability of Chinese domestic steel market. Although Chinese domestic steel prices keep falling by 20% recently, yet the international offers still keep at a high level. The price difference between domestic and overseas markets has reached USD 100 per tonne indicating a sound steel export situation in the future.

However, there are still many uncertainties for steel export, citing the European debt crisis and the international trading frictions. Steel enterprises should strengthen the development of high-end steel products so as to enhance the competition edge among the world.
