After the US announced the adoption of the section 232 tariffs in
2018, Turkey initiated a 13-month investigation on the possibility of steel
dumping for plates, long products, stainless steel products and tubing products
imported into Turkey.
This investigation was made in order to prevent all the steel products from
other countries affected by the section 232 tariffs from being sold to the
Turkish market and attacking the local steel industry in Turkey.
The Turkish Ministry of Customs and Trade indicated that during the
investigation, the import volume of these steel products was not significantly
increased, and the local steel industry was not damaged. Therefore, the
Ministry announced on May 7th that the investigation on the possibility of
steel dumping would be terminated, and it would not impose additional tariffs
or take any protective measures.
