According to the
latest data released by Word Steel Association (WSA), the total crude steel
production of 66 steel manufacturing countries moved up by 5.5% Y-o-Y basis to
1.675 BnT in CY17 against 1.587 BnT in CY16.

production numbers of world's major steel producing countries -
China’s crude steel
output increased 6% Y-o-Y: China’s total output of crude steel increased by 5.7% Y-o-Y
to 831.73 MnT in CY’17 against 786.88 MnT in CY’16. However in Dec’17, China's
crude steel production reached 67.05 MnT, up 1.8% Y-o-Y.
Japan crude steel
production increased marginally - Japan continued to remain 2nd largest steel producer
observing marginal increase in output to 104.9 MnT in CY17.
India’s crude steel
output jumped 6% Y-o-Y - India - the 3rd largest steel maker is poised to become 2nd
largest in coming years. India’s crude steel output was recorded at 101.4 MnT
in CY17, up 6% Y-o-Y.
United States
remained the fourth largest steel producer - United States remained world’s 4th
largest steel producer at 81.6 MnT in CY17, witnessing yearly growth of 4%.
Crude steel output
of other major countries remained as follows: Russia (71.3 MnT), South Korea
(71.2 MnT), Germany (43.5 MnT), Turkey (37.5 MnT) and Brazil (34.7 MnT).
