Iran steel market Trend in Week 01st , 2018

Billet

Billet price started first week of 2018 downward in Iran as demand was scarce. Long products market was almost quiet and affected billet price. Average price of billet size 150 mm was USD 455 – 459 /mt ex-work including 9% VAT by last Saturday and size 125 mm was USD 452-457/mt. By Tuesday size 125 mm reached USD 425 /mt ex-work including 9% VAT with no buyer interested. By Tuesday onward some improvements happened in the market as size 125 mm finished the week at USD 441-452.5 /mt and size 150 mm reached USD 457-462 /mt ex-work including 9% VAT.

Generally, long products market is not in a good mood and re- rollers prefer buying cheaper billet from small mills as their demand level is also limited.  DRI supply level became limited during last week which may help billet price improve in coming days. Also some rumors about possible rise of debar was heard which would be helpful for billet price too.

Long products

Debar diameter 14-25 mm were offered at USD 549/mt ex-work Esfahan including 9% VAT by last Saturday. Sizes 14 and 16 mm were in limited supply which helped price rise to USD 563 /mt ex-work including 9% VAT. Demand was scarce but prices were upward.  Roohina Steel co debar was also offered with big discounts but by end of the week limited billet supply made these discounts limited.

I-beam price moved in an opposite way as average price of sizes 14-18 dropped by USD 4.5 /mt to USD 643 /mt ex-work including 9% VAT by Wednesday.

Debar bottom price is USD 505/mt ex-work excluding 9% VAT in Iran as mills can’t afford producing at lower price.

Flat Products

HRC 2 mm thickness was offered at USD 639 /mt on truck in Anzali including 9% VAT and custom duties by last Saturday, but was downward during the week as reached USD 632 /mt on truck in Anzali by end of the week. Ex-rate was upward but lack of demand and higher domestic supply level made price downward. Upward trend in global markets has not been followed in Iran and this may happen in coming weeks.

HRC 2.5-6 mm thickness was down by USD 11 /mt for Mobarakeh Steel co offers. Downward trend was followed for sizes 6- 15 mm but in slower pace.

Lack of demand is the main reason behind downward prices as especially traders were just watching market.

HRP market of Oxin and Kavian co was also downward as Oxin co product declined by USD 2/mt to USD 558 /mt ex-work including VAT for sizes 10-40 mm. Kavian co HRP size 8-25 mm was almost stable at around USD 540/mt.

CRC market was quiet. Buyers prefer just watching market trend. But domestic and imported cargoes are available in the market. Price of thicknesses 0.90-15 mm is lower being offered by domestic market leader Mobarakeh Steel co. If any demand, would be interested in this kind of material.

HDG supply level was limited and some sizes were improved in price by up to USD 11 /mt. Besides, demand is still low.
