According to statistics released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance, the
Japanese steel industry purchased 1.973 million tons of scraps in February,
falling by 8.4% year on year.
Among them, 1.849 million tons were carbon steel scraps, decreasing by 7.2%;
85,000 tons were alloy scraps, falling by 10% and 40,000 tons were pig iron
scraps, down by 42.5%, all compared to those in the same period of a year ago.
Meanwhile, the Japanese steel industry’s scrap consumption was at 2.796 million
tons in February, decreasing by 6.4% year on year.
Among them, the LD converter’s consumption of carbon scrap was at 662,000 tons,
decreasing by 14.7%; that of alloy scraps was at 36,000 tons, rising by 7.8%
and that of pig iron scraps was at 21,000 tons, decreasing by 4.6%, all
compared to that in the same period of a year ago.
