South Korea imported 373,000 tons of scrap in March, down by
43.3% compared to the same month of last year. The imports hit a new low since
November 2000.
Japan was the major exporter of scrap to South Korea, which exported 244,000
tons of scrap in the month, plunging by 27.6% compared to the same time of last
year. Meanwhile, 55,000 tons of scraps were from Russia, down by 0.5%.
The country cut its scrap imports by 47.8% to 1.19 million tons during the
first three months of this year on the prior comparable period.
