Iran Steel market Trend in Week 02nd, 2014

Billet

Billet price was upward during last week In Iran due to cold and snowy weather which influenced transportations and also gas supply at mills. Billet size 150 mm was up by USD8 /mt to USD605 /mt on truck in Anzali including 6% VAT. Domestic billet size 120 mm was also up from USD 569-577 / mt to USD 581/mt ex-work including 6% VAT at the end of the week. As there was no improvement in demand and price rises were due to cold weather, no significant deal was done.

Snowy weather made scrap supply almost impossible and gas shortage was lead to production stoppage at some mills. Khouzestan Steel Co offered billet at IME at USD16 /mt lower than last transaction at USD565 /mt  and was succeeded to sell it. By end of the week as roads were open and weather condition improved prices were back to beginning of the week level. As billet demand level was scarce due to limited demand in long products market, downward prices are expected in Iran billet market in near future.

Long products

Long products prices declined slowly up to USD 4/mt  during last week despite bad weather and many markets closure. These closures due to snowy weather in many cities made transactions scarce.

Average price of debar size 8-32 mm in Ahwaz market changed from USD679 /mt to USD674 /mt ex-work including 6% VAT by end of the week. I-beam size 14-18 mm from Esfahan Steel declined by USD 9/mt to USD698 /mt  ex-work including 6% VAT.

Generally long products market was almost close during last week due to seasonal factors and there is no sign of improvement in near future.
