In Middle East region, Saudi Arabia produced the highest volume of steel while the UAE consumed highest volume of steel in Middle East region. Per capita consumption in UAE was 2348 kg while that in Qatar was 985 kg. On the whole, GCC had average consumption of 645 kg per capita. This is higher than average global consumption of 240 kg. Due to low population and high investment in infrastructure and and tourism sectors, it is expected that per capita consumption of GCC shall be higher than world’s average. Emirates industrial Bank has asked its membership owning states to add volume to their construction material industry, to reduce import volume and check soaring tariffs.
