10 billion tonnes of iron ore deposits discovered in Sierra Leone

It is reported that an aero magnetic survey recently carried out in Sierra Leone has discovered that there are 10 billion tonnes of iron ore deposits in Northern Sierra Leone.

This was brought to the attention of President Mr Koroma vice president, Mr Sam Sumana, cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, diplomats, traditional rulers from the region, civil and public servants and the press at State House on last Tuesday.

The ceremony was the presentation by African Minerals of the Tonkolili iron ore project in which about USD 100 million has already been invested to carry out the aeromagnetic surveys, training of Geophysicists, Geologists and other professionals.

Mr Frank Timis Executive Chairman of African Minerals said that the iron ore deposits in question are the largest in the African continent and the 4th largest in the world.

Mr Timis said that they are hoping to construct the largest West African port in Sierra Leone.

Mr Alan Watling CEO of AML who did the presentation titled From Concept to Reality, spoke of plans to construct a Class 1 rail and road and an estimated sum of USD 25 billion is being projected to complete the project comprising of rail, port and power supply through hydro electricity.
