In mid-August, square billet prices of cash and three-month contracts have moved in different directions on the LME. In particular, quotations under cash contracts have risen by $12/t to $607-613/t as compared to early August, while three-month ones have dropped by $8/t to $563-573/t from the LME approved warehouses in South Korea, Malaysia, Turkey, the UAE, Belgium, the Netherlands and the USA (New Orleans). Notably, the difference between cash prices and three-month ones has increased from $18-21/t to $40-44/t over the week. Supposedly, it illustrates the concerns of market players regarding the rollback in semis prices in the physical market in mid-Q4.
