Ukraine, the world"s 7th largest steel making country, has shut down 17 of 36 blast furnaces ending October last year.
Ukraine’s steel companies were unable to compete against China and Russia’s steel companies due to the weakening international demand and lower price.
According to the statistics from the World Steel Association (WSA), Ukraine’s crude steel output was 37 million tons last year, decreased by 13.1 percent compared to the same period of previous year.
It is predicted that its output was 2 million tons in January 2009, a 1.53 percent month-on-month decrease and a 45.9 percent year-on-year decrease. Source:Yieh.com
