According to data released by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation, Japan''s steel exports fell by 2.9% YoY to 4.09 million tonnes in March 2011, marking the first such decline in three months.
But despite this decrease, the nation''s steel exports for the month still remained at their second highest point ever. The highest level was posted one year earlier.
Steel exports usually rise in March 2011, the final month of the Japanese fiscal year. This year, growing demand from the recovering US economy helped push up Japan''s steel exports.
Japan Iron & Steel Federation said that the impact of the March 11th 2011 disaster on steel exports will likely be limited, citing the fact that the figures for March remained above 4 million tones
